ABOUT YOUR HOST: James J. McGee Sr.
James McGee is a retired Sheriff Commander with 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he served as the Chief of Staff for an elected District Attorney. He is now retired from public service and host of The James McGee Show.
His 30-years of Law Enforcement experience spans from Corrections officer, Patrolman, SWAT Operator/Team Leader, and Detective. His last 17 years were spent as Commander of the Enforcement Division. There he oversaw patrol operations, K-9, Marine, communications, intelligence, and SWAT.
Teaching Defensive tactics, use of force, and civilian self-defense is a passion of his and he taught it until his retirement. Over the last 10 years, he developed several courses that his agency taught to the public, at no charge. Those include Church Security and assessments, civilian response to an active shooter, and civilian self defense. He has been a certified instructor in several defensive tactics and self-defense systems.
Above all, during his career, he was known as simply “The fixer”. When the worst happened, he was at his best. He has led at the highest levels during some of the most horrific events in his Parish. He served as Incident Commander during major hurricanes, floods, tactical situations, and civil unrest. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, session 236.
In his former life, he was a known political strategist. He was involved in and helped chair some of the biggest and most successful campaigns in his region of the state of Louisiana. His specialty was candidate branding and messaging. He feels that if you can survive Louisiana Politics, you can survive anything!
On top of The James McGee Show, he is the co-owner (with his wife) of Lawn Tech, a lawn maintenance company. His goal is to grow Lawn Tech into something bigger than two people and one trailer. He wants to prove to himself and prove to other first responders and military personnel that their skills are transferable to private business. Someone has to own multi-million dollar businesses, why not him and other former public servants?
He is married to Beth Nunez McGee, a Captain at the same agency he retired from. She possesses a master's degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia and is also a graduate of the FBINA, session 284. He has two children, James Jr. (Jamie) and Macie. Jamie was an All-American Collegiate Football Player, as a Place Kicker. As you will learn when he is a podcast guest, he was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at seven years old. He knows firsthand that the world doesn’t care and you have to take control of your life. Jamie is a graduate of McNeese State University with a Bachelor's in Social Sciences. Macie is a Senior at Louisiana State University, graduating in May of 2024 with a Bachelor's in Political Communications. She went from a childhood brat, to teenage terror, to a smart, beautiful woman. She has her mom's book smarts and her dad's strategic, “fixer” traits. That combination will no doubt lead her to great success. He also has a big “adopted” family. He is proud of his family, both biological and adopted. Like his father, he is an avid cook. His specialty is of course cajun cuisine. Italian dishes are also a love of his. His mother is Italian and comes from a large family, food was the centerpiece of their gatherings. Feeding those he loves is his hobby.
